What Do the EU Ecodesign Requirements Mean in Practice?

The implementing regulation for the Ecodesign Directive, Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/1103, came into force on 1 July 2025, introducing stricter energy efficiency requirements for electric towel warmers.

Towel warmers with a power output of 60 W or less may now operate continuously for a maximum of six hours at a time. Models rated above 60 W may operate continuously, provided they meet additional energy efficiency requirements. This has led to the widespread introduction of features such as timers and energy-saving modes. The aim is to ensure that towel warmers operate efficiently while consuming as little energy as possible.

REJ Design Towel Warmers Comply with the EU Regulation

REJ Design’s electric towel warmers were redesigned in summer 2025 to comply with the new Ecodesign requirements.

All electric models are equipped as standard with 3-hour and 6-hour timer functions, as well as an Eco mode, allowing users to reduce the heating output whenever full power is unnecessary. Models rated above 60 W also include the option for continuous operation.

The timer automatically switches the towel warmer off after the selected operating period, preventing unnecessary energy consumption. Eco mode further reduces electricity use by lowering the heating output whenever maximum performance is not required.

Easier Planning, Simpler Installation and a Clearer Product Range

REJ Design’s summer 2025 product update introduced more energy-efficient towel warmers, easier planning and installation, and a clearer product range.

Following the update, REJ Design electric towel warmers come with the electrical connection in the upper right / lower left mounting leg as standard, depending on the installation orientation. However, the connection leg can easily be selected during installation. As before, the Tango and Largo ladder models can also be installed upside down, placing the connection points in the lower mounting legs. The electrical connection can therefore be positioned in any corner as required. The timer switch is normally located at the top of the right-hand vertical tube. If the towel warmer is installed upside down, the timer switch will be at the bottom of the left-hand vertical tube. Please note: as before, Vivo models can only be connected at the top, on either the right or left side. Electrical professionals also appreciate the REJ Pro® installation method, launched in 2024, which makes hardwired installation smoother and faster, reducing installation time by up to 50%.

In addition, the new main power switch ensures that the towel warmer meets the requirements of electrical safety standard EN 60335-1 for hardwired installations as well. The towel warmer can be disconnected from the mains using the new main power switch, eliminating the need for a separate isolating switch.

The product update also simplifies the overall range: with each towel warmer model offering connection points in all four corners (except Vivo models), separate versions for different connection sides are no longer needed. REJ Design has therefore discontinued the separate upper right / lower left and upper left / lower right versions of each model, significantly reducing the number of product codes in the range.
